About Our Philanthropy
Philanthropy: Connecting Our Legacy, Present, and Future
Philanthropy is the core of our mission, seamlessly linking our history, current endeavors, and future aspirations. Embracing the spirit of our historical supporters, we are committed to fostering positive change, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to lead a meaningful and fulfilling life.
Currently, we manage our Philanthropy Framework with a focus on partnering with the charities we oversee as trustees. Our aim is to empower individuals facing challenges and help them realise their full potential.
Annually, we allocate a sizeable fund to charitable initiatives, targeting relief for disadvantaged communities all over the world. Our goal is to support approximately 20 charities each year, enhancing lives, bolstering organisations, and driving societal transformation. Over the past five years, we have invested heavily into more than 10 organisations through our people centric programs and priority funding areas.
Our key areas of focus include Young People & Education, Older People & Housing, Communities, and our newly introduced Heritage & Arts initiative.

Focus
Fostering positive change to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to live a fulfilling and enriched life.
Each year, around seven figures is allocated to support approximately 15 charities, aiming to:
Enhance individuals' lives
Fortify organisations
Promote societal transformation
Funding organisations that advocate for disadvantaged people and communities.
In our ongoing commitment to excellence, we conduct a comprehensive review of our Philanthropy Framework every five years. This process helps us assess our progress, refine our strategies, and align our philanthropic efforts with our core principles—leveraging our independence and enduring presence to drive meaningful results and achieve tangible outcomes.
For the 2023-2028 Philanthropy Framework, we have established standardised impact metrics across all our grant making initiatives. These measures are designed to:
Enhance the quality of life for individuals
Fortify the organisations supporting these individuals
Drive broader societal progress
By implementing these impact metrics, we can effectively track and evaluate the progress and value delivered across various sectors and communities within our programs. Our findings and the impact of our efforts are detailed annually in our Annual Review.
